Favy O’the moment
I’m starting this series Favy O’the Mo. It will be a few things that are my favorites from the previous month. Favorite products, movies, restaurants, book…whatever I’m loving at the moment.
For August I have a couple. First up is the EOS Sphere. EOS stands for Evolution of Smooth. They are unlike anything that I’ve seen before. Lip balms in egg-like spheres made with moisturizing shea butter, vitamins C and E, antioxidents and jojoba oil.
They come in about 10 wonderful flavors that don’t overpower you. They smooth on clear, keep your lips soft and hydrated, are paraben free, petrolatum free, gluten free, phthalate free, organic and they do not test on animals. I first heard of them on YouTube when one of the gurus mentioned them. I didn’t really think much about it at the time but later I was in Walgreens browsing, as I have a habit of doing, and I came across it. I bought it on a whim. And now I am hooked. I went back and bought another couple of flavors. I should mention that Walgreens sells their version. They look exactly the same but are a few cents cheaper. I have not tried their brand so I can’t attest to how it compares. The EOS Sphere sells for about $3.29 each. It is just the right size and shape for you to pucker up and apply. The pictures above are of my personal spheres and they have been used…by yours truly. A lot. So ignore the dents and the fact that they are starting to look worn. I use them after I brush my teeth, morning and night. It even feels great under any other lip product that you might want to use. The drawback is that only one flavor, lemon drop, has SPF. I do not use a lot of lip products. My lips are sensitive and I just don’t like anything heavy. These are perfect for me. I have naturally healthy lips and I rarely have problems but in the summer I need SPF when I’m out in the sun. There seems to be a trend where lip products have a tingling, cool sensation. I absolutely hate this in a lip balm. It aggravates my lips and makes them feel more chapped. It is a fact that “medicated” lip balms dry your lips because they were created to dry out cold sores. They were not made for use on chapped lips. Of course, manufacturers are not going to tell you this! They want you to use that lip balm on chapped lips, so that it dries your lips out more so you use more lip balm. It is an endless cycle. EOS does NOT do that. I love the stuff because it works as moisturizer for your lips when they feel dry. It soothes and smoothes and never dries. I am going to the beach next week and I needed something with SPF. I went to Walgreens to pick up Lemon Drop, for the SPF. My Walgreen’s didn’t have this flavor available. So I picked up the Softlips Cube. It was $3.49.
I have not used it. In fact I just opened it when I took this picture and put it on. It does have a slight cool feeling. But not overly so. We will see if it makes my lips feel dry and chapped in the morning. For now, it does make them feel super soft.
Another of my favorites for August is Jergen’s Natural Glow Moisturizer. This is a lotion that has a touch of self tanner in it. I have been using medium to tan each night for about a week, especially on my legs and arms. Heading to the beach next week, remember? Anyway, it has given my skin a lovely, healthy touch of color. It doesn’t look like Cheetos orange and no streaking. I am not a self tanner. I don’t think I have ever used an actual “self tanner.” I used this particular product several years ago when it first came out and I liked it then. It seems that they have improved their formula and it goes on even smoother now. I wash my hands thoroughly after each application and I do NOT have brown palms! It has a pleasant scent that just smells like lotion.
It contains antioxidents and makes my skin feel smooth and soft. I put it on before bed at night, let it dry and it doesn’t stain the sheets. It comes in two tones. One is designed for fair to medium skin tones and another for medium to tan skin tones. It comes in a pump or a tube. They also have available Natural Glow with SPF. Funny that I wanted that in my lip balm but not in my self tanning lotion. Also available, Firming Lotion and Face lotion with SPF. I bought the moisturizing lotion in a tube at Walgreens on sale for $7.99. This winter, if you are looking for that hint of sunlight, this is the perfect, subtle way without going for a full on spray tan or self tanner.
